Hosting a Metro Traveling Tournament is the main fundraiser conducted by the SYBA. We will be hosting 9 different age groups/competitive levels with 72 teams competing including 10 Shakopee teams. The tournaments take place on June 22-24. It takes an incredible amount of volunteer help to pull off a tournament of this size successfully. In addition, we will once again be running our annual in house tournament on July 21.
Volunteer hour requirement applies to all players on a traveling team. This includes those Shakopee Teams that will not participate in the Shakopee Tournament. In house players do not have to work volunteer hours.
Each player's family is expected to work eight hours with a 16 hour family maximum (in the case of multiple players per family).
Three coaches (head and assistants) get full credit and do not have to work at a tournament as long as they complete their responsibilities.
Grounds Crew of 12-15 yr old traveling teams get full credit and do not have to work the tournament as long as they complete their responsibilities. Since 10-11 yr olds only play on skin infields (no pitching mounds/tarps), grounds crew only responsibility is to chalk fields and pickup/return the portable pitching mounds, they get half credit but still need to work one shift at one of the three tournaments.
Team managers of 10-15 traveling teams get full credit and do not have to work the tournament as long as they complete their responsibilities.
The online volunteer signup system (DIBs) will be available after the traveling teams have been announced.
